Smoking can be pretty difficult in Japan; even if you are in a open space there are particular spots where you are allowd to smoke.

this picture reminds me of seeing my dad smoke when i was a kid. the way he stands, the way he puts out his cigarette haha. he quit now, but yeah this is what this picture reminds me of.

about the description, so you mean you can't just smoke anywhere in japan ? even on the streets ?

exactly!
in some street if a policeman catchs you smoking you can get even a fine.
You can smoke everywhere near an ash try.

wow! that would make my life very difficult (although otherwise probably more healthy) ! lol no wonder, when i was at narita airport, my first ever stop inside the airport was the smoking room, and it was nuts in there. it was like being in a smoking room in a pub back then, before the smoking indoors ban came into effect in vancouver. i guess it's a good thing. since not everyone likes the smell of cigarettes in their face.
